It is even cheaper than gray iron castings.

It has a very high corrosion resistance as well as thermal conductivity. This metal has great mechanical properties and strength even at high temperatures. This is why it is preferred in both die and permanent casting. Still, it can be used on lost foam casting. Steel bears the same traits. It is great for use on parts that are mre likely to suffer from both high wear and tear. In order to get better heat resistance properties, steel will mostly be mixed with either iron or nickel.
Copper is also appreciated when considering metal casting. This is due to its great electrical conductivity. This is what makes so many industries to prefer it for electrical components. There are instances when it will be necessary for it to be mixed with zinc so that any internal cavity cannot be formed. You will note that zinc has a very low melting point too.
